Vice President Kashim Shettima canceled his trip to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Samoa after his plane sustained damage during a stopover at JFK Airport in New York. According to Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, a foreign object struck the plane, shattering its cockpit windscreen.
In response, President Bola Tinubu appointed a ministerial delegation, led by Environment Minister Balarabe Abass Lawal, to represent Nigeria at the summit, which began on October 21 and will conclude on October 26. Shettima and Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar have since returned to Nigeria as repairs commence.
