“President Tinubu Orders Cuts to Official Convoys and Security to Curb Governance Costs”

President Bola Tinubu has announced new directives to reduce government expenses, which include strict limits on official vehicle use and security personnel for ministers and heads of federal agencies. According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, these cost-cutting measures restrict government officials to a maximum of three vehicles in their convoys, with no additional vehicles provided for movement.

This latest move follows previous steps by Tinubu earlier in the year, such as reducing his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and cutting the Vice President’s team to five for foreign trips. The recent directive also limits security personnel to five per official, comprising four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.

President Tinubu has tasked the National Security Adviser with coordinating adjustments with military and paramilitary agencies to further reduce vehicle and security personnel deployment. These measures are to be enforced immediately, underscoring the administration’s commitment to controlling government spending.
