CAF Awards Nigeria 3-0 Forfeit Win Over Libya in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board recently ruled in favor of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their 2025 AFCON Qualifier against Libya, awarding them three points and three goals due to Libya’s regulatory violations. The match, initially scheduled for October 15 in Benin, was declared forfeited, giving Nigeria a 3-0 victory.

Libya’s Football Federation was penalized for breaching Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations, along with Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, resulting in a USD 50,000 fine to be paid within 40 days. This decisive ruling bolsters Nigeria’s qualification chances, placing them atop their group with 10 points from four matches, four points ahead of Benin, while Rwanda has five points, and Libya, with only one, is now eliminated from the race.

Nigeria’s next match, against Benin Republic on November 14 in Abidjan, offers them a chance to secure their qualification spot for the tournament in Morocco, set for December 2025 to January 2026. A win or draw in this encounter will confirm their place in the AFCON finals.
